Gratefulness
To listen to the guidance within and as in the word of the day ” Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand – and melting like a snowflake.” SIR FRANCIS BACON
Also to learn more about plants and horticulture, a career change I stopped pursuing 10 years ago
My husband getting work just when the car needs repairs, as we need it to take our daughter to a new, farther school. Just hoping that the new mechanics can get it right this second time.
Today I went to get some extra special things for our meal, including wine, and I am grateful my husband’s new job is affording them. These are things we haven’t had for a long time. Christmas is turning out to be simple and meaningful, just my daughter, husband and I, enjoying food. Gone are the “Christmas shoulds” I used to put myself through. It has been a challenging year, but as a friend told me yesterday, that has passed. And there are still things to resolve next year, but they will be somehow… family is far away, but we can connect through wonderful modern technology. So, today I am living a yes to life appreciating the now and trusting life
Like Ed, I was going to refer to Br David’s letter but kept on thinking why sometimes it’s challenging to be playful, for example with my daughter playful often equals messy. Then I though that perhaps if I incorporate in my daily life what gives me delight, I can reflect and more readily be a source of delight for others, because it will come from a state within. Meanwhile, I can practice humour and kindness, laughing especially at myself ????
The body knows before I do, so it’s worth paying attention to the reactions of the body, for instance, when taking decisions
My little flat in Johannesburg is the first one I could call mine, this is a blessing. The area is busy and can be very noisy. Next-door, I have samples of all types of life: a Catholic Church and school, night clubs and its associated drug dealing, the police station, a homeless shelter run by the church, offices including my work place, art galleries, and a mall nearby.. And at the moment it feels like a construction site, as they are demolishing and building higher up. However, it is one o...
However, it is one of the few areas that are walking friendly in this city. Also, I don’t live behind high walls and the complex doesn’t need security guards, unlike other typical housing here, such as townhouse complexes. Far from luxury, I have my comforts and am reminded constantly of my privilege by witnessing underprivileged every day. And my view is a blessing: the school grounds and the church tower, the trees and the ever changing sky. Challenging and good question for me too…
Nigel, he was my landlord in Cornwall, UK for about 4 months in 2004-2005, offered help and friendship during a vulnerable time, we are still friends and keep in touch.
If I said what I really thought, with compassion, then I would live more simply, no more confusion and misunderstandings.
Que’ bien Deb, suerte! ????
Yes, we’ll be in touch! ????
Great allegory, thanks Elizabeth!
The appreciation of little but meaningful things and high love can bring so much joy and comfort, I am glad we are sharing this feeling Aine, blessings for a pain free and Happy Christmas
Oh yes Ed, to realise and appreciate the process made over the last year is an important YES to life for me too, in my case through this practice of gratefulness
Thank you dear Anna, mee too I started re-learning this recently, and still need to keep remembering, I am sure this is something that comes naturally for children…
Thank you Christina for this text of M. Teresa
I agree Christina, and I am sure the body is not only forgiving but also grateful ????
Thanks Deb, it’s good to know I am not alone feeling this way
