What if you viewed your whole life as a pilgrimage? This stepping of one foot in front of another. How would it change the steps you take on the pilgrim’s path? Steps are just one foot in front of another. We can choose the direction – north, south, east, west, the points in between. We can choose how we take them. Mindfully, deliberately, barefoot, feeling the soft spring earth supporting, or hot sand scrubbing off layers of skin. We can choose how we take our steps, with love, for ourselves and others, tuned into the birdsong of trees and air, the way the wind blows, the scent of wild thyme released beneath our feet. We can listen to the prayer that our footsteps make, and the song the earth sings back. And how we take our pilgrim’s steps might then lead us in the true direction of our soul – our north, our south, our east, our west, our transformation, our home.
Inspired by the questions. Also heard the Ram Dass quote in a talk this week, “We are all walking each other home” which also seems like a good compassion mantra.
