Gratefulness
The thing that touches me the most is knowing we are connected even when I do not see the threads. It helps me be more patient, tolerant, accepting, and curious.
Examine my path, and keep learning
Maybe an offbeat response, but here goes… “common sense.” ???? When I use it, things are much richer in life. I apprehend better, react better, and appreciate what is going on. ???? When I am “common sense free,” I overreact, assume, over analyze, and worry myself into a frenzy.
That I am here, able to put one foot in front of the other… free… faith-filled… and loved.
Energy… To live, To think, reason, and create, To connect, To love, To support and be supported. Life is the energy that moves and vibrates to create all of us, and the universe we live in. It is the steady hum that we all strive to “tune” into.
My list is so long. I made a created it on my computer. It is in 3 columns per page and is alphabetized so I can sort it. It is 18 pages long so far. So, rather than saying specifically what I am grateful for, I will say that I am grateful to be making this list. You would be AMAZED how affirming it is on low energy days… and how much FUN it is to work on it. Anyone else out there doing this like me will agree it is TOPS. (Terrifically Optimistic, Positively Special.)
To me, living gratefully opens the doors to connection… and that encourages me to get involved in ways I can influence, change, and support others. Change begins as a seed that needs to germinate and grow. Living gratefully opens me up to supporting that seed as it grows. I look back at ways others have done this, and it really fills my “gratitude bucket.”
I will keep this short… shame. I am willing to let it go. I am releasing it as we share.
Connections! Getting to know people and realizing that our Universe has connected us for a purpose, common cause, or belief. It is amazingly cool to discover commonalities. It is both validating and encouraging to go on and find out more about what makes 2 into 1.
Many of the biggest teachers in my life are my students. I teach elementary school, and even single day, I learn something. Perhaps it is patience, the courage to fail and try again, or to stay calm among things that can be confusing and new. I often, OFTEN, think of what I expect from my girls and boys as they go through the school day. I try to keep in mind that I am a student, too, and need to see life as a process of learning and discovery. I do get frustrated, depressed, or overwhelmed...

I do get frustrated, depressed, or overwhelmed… but all of that is part of the process of living and learning.
Each day is a fresh page to write on. I KNOW we have all heard that many times. But for now, I am thinking about how grateful I am when I am reading or listening to a book that gives me insights into who I am and how I “tick.” Each realization is an opportunity to reflect, appreciate, or CHANGE something that will lead me to a better self.
To me, the biggest gift is to realize that to many, many others, the ordinary of my life IS extraordinary. It is so important to not be numb to my circumstances. My life has a lot of challenges, mainly in health… but my doctors are EXTRA EXTRAORDINARY, as are my caregivers. Stay tuned in to your blessings. Their vibrations keep you humming.
Gratefulness… Turns on the light. Opens the door. Helps me breathe. Gives me perspective. Reminds me of the treasures in my life. Gives me another chance. Shows me love.
A simple shift. Look at what I DO have; not at what I don’t.
Many folks compliment me on being positive. Being so is a conscious choice. It is not always sec0nd nature to me. I am seriously ill right now, and being positive sometimes feels like a distant goal. I am grateful that others see this quality in me, and I am equally grateful when they tell me. It is a reminder that hitting a brick wall does not define me… my talents and intentions DO.
Kevin… no shame in that extra nap. You deserve it. 🙂 Have a great day!
As someone waiting for a kidney transplant, and dealing with dialysis 3 times a week, this did my heart SO MUCH GOOD. Thank YOU!
Thank you so much for your support. I taught elementary school for a very long time. Seeing children face failure and bounce back to try again taught me a big life lesson. I loved… well still love… my girls and boys. I have seen many, many grow into wonderful adults. Going to treatment 3 times a week is tough, but NOT going and dealing with the result would be even tougher. I choose to see this illness as a classroom to learn in. This website is an equally important classroom.
Thanks so much. I am now on dialysis… but grateful for the freedom it gives me. I love the reminder that our experiences happen to us, but are not who we are… if we choose to bounce instead of crash. 🙂
