Gratefulness
It is deep winter and I am in hibernation mode. This is not my time of harvest, but time of waiting patiently for spring.
Oh. My. Too many to list. As I read the responses I find myself mentally affirming “yes!” to the ones I have read and “hmmm, I should check that out!” to those I haven’t. One I will mention here that is on no one else’s list is Swift, Lord, You Are Not by Killian McDonnell. Poetry and relationship with God and life.
Perseverance. To keep living when I wanted to die. To begin. Again.
Perhaps not expectation or reciprocity, but hope. Hope that my effort bears fruit or is helpful, that is was not in vain.
Breath and pain. When pain occurs I would like it to go away, sooner rather than later. Yet pain has a lot to teach. Breath is another taken for granted blessing because it is automatic and it is very easy not to think of it unless you have a condition that impedes it. Actually, all of our body is miraculous and we only really seem to realize it when something is not working well.
Like Kevin, I don’t seek qualities in a person I call a friend. They are and have what they are and have. I try to recognize and appreciate that.
It is generally a wise thing to respond rather than react. That pause allows me to respond. Yes, I can….and will.
I am reminded of this quote: “I have a past, but I don’t live there anymore. “ Cheers to and for NOW, Everyone!!
I have been learning ballroom dancing for three years. I would like to compete with my mate as an amateur couple and with my instructor in pro-am. I also am embarking on learning to speak and read Spanish. Cheers for 2018!
I don’t have any heros. At least, not today.
My husband’s creative outlet is cooking (I have not cooked in years!). That is his delight. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate each and every mouthful, which brings him even MORE delight!
Very well stated, G. B. ! I totally agree with you!
Kathy is, as Kevin put it “spot on”! Included, as Nancy said all the people who regularly post on this daily question. I appreciate all of you though we have never met.
I love and appreciate your answer, Patjos! It served well and my reading about it reminds me of the impact of what others might consider insignificant. Cheers!
You are welcome, Kevin! Blessings of joy, good cheer and continued mobility be yours in 2018!
Gracias, Palm!!????????
Thank you, Cintia! I learned French in 2015 for a trip we took to France. I could not converse well, but I was able to understand menus, street signs. etc. This time I am focusing on conversation.
That is a tall order, Barbara! Blessings of good cheer and perseverance as you cultivate those many desires in 2018! Indeed, they are worthy endeavors!
Are you familiar with the book “Chased By the Light” by Jim Brandenburg, Kevin? It was published in 1998 and was a challenge Jim set for himself. Truly a beautiful, remarkable 90 day photographical journal by one of the world’s profound photographers.
Thank you, Sheila. One of my favorite books on Benedictine living is Always We Begin Again by John McQuiston III. It was my introduction and I have others but still prefer this one. I hope you will find it useful.
