Gratefulness
Heard something at the gym today. One of the men in the locker room said that he had just turned 75. The other man commented “that’s 3/4 of a century old”. I told my one friend this tonight and she got a kick out of it.
Fall energizes me (I just hate what comes after Fall) Doing good for others, going to Mass on Sunday and my one friend who is such a sweetheart to me.
My experiences in my life was when I became catholic 35 years ago and now I have a very close friend who will be going on that spiritual journey to receive the sacraments. I’m very happy to go on that ride with her and in fact feel honored to go with her and to be her sponsor.
Every time I go to confession I’ve experienced kindness from our Lord that He loves me and forgives my faults. Recently a friend of ours gave us some money with no strings attached to help pay some bills because I haven’t worked due to my recent hip replacement.
I would like to be remembered as a kind and sensitive person who was concerned for others needs. For being a confidant to my friends and having a good sense of humor. For being spiritual and putting others ahead of myself.
I really savor a breeze on a hot summers’ day. I really savored that glass of ice tea that my friend bought this morning. God loves us as we are and not as we should be and that is free and I try to savor that as well.
I’m grateful for today that my wife and I celebrated 36 years of marriage. I am grateful that this 1 friend of mine shares everything with me, whether she’s upset, happy or whatever that she has the confidence to share with me and I feel privileged to listen.
My one friend hasn’t really heard the words that they are loved. She was in a dysfunctional family. Both of her parents drank and the father was abusive. I have told her on several occasions that I love her and I keep telling her that. It’s unfortunate that a person like her hasn’t been told that, she has so much to give of herself and she is a very loving person. I believe it’s important to let your family and friends know how much you care and back that up.
I’d say my best friend is my wife, we’ll be married 36 years on the 8th of this month. I have 2 female friends who are especially close to me (my wife is not threatened by them) The 1 that I have is like a sister to me and I like a brother.to her. The other one helped me during a time when I was struggling with depression. As I look back I’d say that these 3 have made the most impact in my life.
Jill, you said it best when it comes to replenish ourselves spiritually, emotionally etc. I’m a Eucharistic minister in my parish here outside of Pittsburgh and I feel this is an awesome responsibility to have. I make 2 retreats a year, 1 is a themed retreat the other is a silent retreat where you could spend as many days you can in the 3rd week of June. Without those retreats I would be dreading something g that is so humbling to do at church. To spend time with the Lord during tho...
To spend time with the Lord during those days gives me focus on what my faith as a Catholic means. I’m helping a friend of mine complete her the process of receiving her first communion and confirmation. I have to stand with her before the community and I feel I must be ready spiritually, emotionally and mentally to do this. Being like Mary in the gospel story is definitely a must for someone like myself or my ministry would all be for show
I am sorry as well Deb for what you have gone through/going through. May the Lord bless you and ease you of the pain you are experiencing.
Love it!!, that made ME laugh!
Thanks Kevin, appreciate the well wishes! Sounds like it will take time for you, but hang in there it will get better!
Congratulations Kevin! I had a hip replacement 13 weeks ago and my recovery was sensational. You must feel free of the pain you must have had. I pray that your recovery and am glad to hear that you are doing so well!
Well put Kevin
Thanks Jill, I might just try that.
Money can’t buy love, just be there for them and tell them that you love them. Listen to them when they need to talk and be supportive. I’m short on money too. But do the best you can to be there for them. I hope that this helps you a little.
I struggle in forgiving my father for all the things he has said to me. I haven’t spoken to him in 3 years. I do try and pray for him.
Thank you for sharing Christina, I wish you and your friend much success in the 12 step program. My mom was on that program (May she rest in peace) It’s something that you have to keep working at everyday. My 1 friend and I are going on a faith journey starting in September and I will be her sponsor in this process. So I will get a taste of what its’ like to sponsor someone. Again I wish you and your friend success in this process.
