I’d say my best friend is my wife, we’ll be married 36 years on the 8th of this month. I have 2 female friends who are especially close to me (my wife is not threatened by them) The 1 that I have is like a sister to me and I like a brother.to her. The other one helped me during a time when I was struggling with depression. As I look back I’d say that these 3 have made the most impact in my life.
The people who have helped me. Being disabled is tough. Seeing people walk away because it is easier is tougher.
My friends Cassidy, Bri, Cody, Erin, Kailyn, Emma, and Emily as well as my animal companions Moe the cat (may he rest in peace), Hal the cat, and Tuck the dog have been there for me as friends and companions through my journey of life, being spiritual teachers who help me learn some of life’s most important lessons.
Apart from some wonderful friends who have been there for me during a very difficult health problem, I am grateful for my four-legged friends who provide me with unconditional love and loyalty. No matter how difficult the day has been, my dogs always greet me with such love and loyalty.
My good friends have been meaningful because of their kindness, easy connection, and same values and interests. The friends that weren’t or aren’t usually good friends because of not liking them as much. They have been the most meaningful, my teachers, because I’ve learned the most with them and from them.
I have one friend, a married woman with four kids, I feel especially, spiritually close to. As a kid, I always had one best friend, and I feel like my female friend is that in adulthood. We’re both in a 12-step program. I, in fact, am her sponsor. At the start of our several-year friendship, I said to her, “I’ve never felt this way (I guess this spiritual, emotional intimacy) about a woman before!” It is such a gift!.
Through 20 years in the two original 12-step programs, I’ve witnessed many times the healing powers of sponsor/sponsee relationships. Often the sponsor is the main recipient of the grace that flows to both parties. We are all each other’s teachers.
Yeah, you know I get so much from her!
Thank you for sharing Christina, I wish you and your friend much success in the 12 step program. My mom was on that program (May she rest in peace) It’s something that you have to keep working at everyday. My 1 friend and I are going on a faith journey starting in September and I will be her sponsor in this process. So I will get a taste of what its’ like to sponsor someone. Again I wish you and your friend success in this process.
Thanks so much, Paul, for sharing about your life. The same good wishes to you and your friend!
My Dharma friends.
All, because they have added so much to my life in one way or another
all of them , for different reasons- all came into my life for purpose of knowing and experiencing love……and it still exists now…
Taking a look back over the last few years, which friends have been truly meaningful to you?
The Sufi ones who "dropped" this poem off one morning.
At surface, speck of light
In depth the Sun we are.
Soul-Holy Spirit, blew through
Mary, we are.
From the chalice of Sun
every morning we get drunk.
Drunkards of the Spirit of patience
like Jesus we are.
If serpent be foe,
the White Hand of Moses we are.
If deluge be the whole world,
the Arc of Noah we are.
O’ pious one...

with your earthly eyes.
Look through your inner eye
and see what Souls we are.

I have friends that have taken me in, instructed me, critiqued me, encouraged me, laughed w me, sang w me. We have lived!!
