Gratefulness
Sometimes when I am relieved from my responsibilities for a bit. I’m thinking of a bus trip I took in to Manhattan to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. I didn’t have to drive and could full enjoy my beloved walking all over midtown. I visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, lit a candle for my struggling sister, bought my Mom a NYC knitted cap, and just completely & thoroughly enjoyed myself. Then I got on the bus and left the ride home to the driver. It was great and I felt invigorated and thoroughly connected to the Great Source! I’m looking forward to doing it again this year.
I am discovering who I am and what I like & enjoy. I have always been beset by the “shoulds”: “You’re a smart girl, you should….” It is a blessing & a grace to discover who I am without these! What I’m finding is that I’m pretty damn happy!!
It’s funny that should be the question this morning. Last night, I had a vivid, involving dream about not receiving needed help. The message that came through to me is the importance of offering help despite the impulse to practice “tough love.”.
Thank you Brother David – your wisdom, your humor, your practicality, your scholarship. You started me on my spiritual journey with “Gratefulness: The Heart of Prayer” in the mid-80s. It continues to this day thanks to your good work!
Think the “answer” is contained in the question: What would help me?…just saying an unconditional “yes” to my life exactly as it is today. As Nike said, “Just Do It!”
I guess by embracing my vulnerability…not a comfortable feeling.
I’ve learned that I have blocks to God in my life; and that I can work to remove them for a more serene life!
The next right action for me this morning is to go food shopping, including a box of broths for my cat Lucy because it’s her 6th birthday Sunday!
My eyes. I have been staggered by the sheer beauty of the world around me: the sun flooding my front room in the morning, the billowing curtains in the breeze; the Hamptons; strikingly attractive men, women and children. So often the beauty I see includes wind and sun.
Oh man, if I knew the answer to that, I’d be – what – a millionaire?! Smile.
This is a variation on the theme: you know what part of my body I AM grateful for & appreciative of? My strong legs. They carry me on my frequent 3-mile walks around my complex. They are strong & good. They are functional; they take me where I want to go. I love my legs!
Thanks for sharing, Anna! My people come from Gubbio, near Perugia. I’ve been there twice, a long time ago, to visit them. It’s a beautiful place!
It’s that city energy.
It was!
Thanks so much for your support, Anita!
🙂
Indeed, but she’s very sweet!
Thanks, Mary!
Thanks, Michael!
