When I give space for myself to feel the emotions of being human, even those I do not particularly like feeling, I can more effectively empathize with others going through similar feelings, and this inspires me to do something to reach out to another. 3 Reply SeeAreLow7 years agoSeeAreLowBy experiencing the joy and love from people with whom I’m given the opportunity to help in their challenging times; this inspires me and brings me joy. 2 Reply Randy Clere7 years agoRandy ClereI have always had a deep and abiding love for the human being. I practice my craft to ease suffering. It is a good thing, to take time regularly to ponder this question, I think. Now, if I could must a little more kindness and compassion for myself…. 5 Reply Aine7 years agoAineAmen…I, too, am working on learning Self-Compassion. I am finding it is far more connected to all things than I ever thought possible. 1 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelBy witnessing the many incarnations of Oneness in the world. 4 Reply Gina7 years agoGinaMichael, amazing…love it 1 Reply grateful sea7 years agograteful seaI am thinking of Thich Nhat Hanh’s wisdom on the simple act of washing dishes, “You should wash each dish as if it were the baby Jesus,” or the baby Buddha. And so I am reminded that literally every little thing I do IS service, whether or not I am inspired by it. How to do small acts with great love? For me, the how is hinted at in the word “inspiration” itself. Breath. 6 Reply KC7 years agoKCThank you grateful sea. Your reflection is so helpful and affirming… 1 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelYour response has been of service to me and I am sure to others. Thank you. 3 Reply grateful sea7 years agograteful seaThank you, Michael. 0 Reply Faith527 years agoFaith52I feel called to serve very frequently, but I know I do not always answer that call with action. What prevents me from serving the needs of others is feeling empty or lacking. What inspires me to serve is when I feel peaceful and centered, recognizing how full my own cup is. Gratitude is a big part of that. 1 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinI am inspired to serve in three primary ways: when a need to do so is apparent; when I observe others who are being of service; and when, though infrequent, when I experience a spiritual leading to be of service in some way. I admit with a measure of frustration and sadness, however, that in recent years my back issues have prevented me from responding to large scale crises near or far. Having been trained in crisis work years ago I remember the number one rule was that my needs cannot outweigh the needs of those who need the help! So I have had to find other gentler ways to serve that kept my back happy. – Kevin Read More4 Reply Aine7 years agoAineStruggling with health issues from the Lyme has been teaching me a similar lesson as I have been unable to do what I think I *ought* to be able to do. I find this challenging. In my better moments of looking at this, I think that perhaps all that means is that we were needed to plow in a different field. God is perfectly capable of filling the slot I left and moving me to another slot. I don’t know why I struggle so sometimes! 😉 1 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinOh Aine….I hear you loud and clear! And as a farmer long ago, I love the plowing in a different field metaphor. Your overall response reminds me of my all time favorite quote that I treasure from a British clergyman back in the 1800 hundreds by Charles Kingsley: “Have thy tools ready, God will send thee work.” I wait and pray into this regularly.it seems. Peace and joy to you my friend. 1 Reply Malag7 years agoMalagMy biggest inspiration to serve is through my family. Also the part of me that supports me is serving a higher purpose and it is inspiring and uplifting to notice that. 5 Reply My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
