Right now I’m living on my savings which scares me and takes me in scarcity mode. I like to donate goods to the food bank although I don’t do it often, so yesterday I thought that from my 1st paid check with this company I’ll be doing some shopping for the food bank. so this question really hit home! there are so many ways that I give. for instance, my sense of humor making people laugh is one of my joys, showing gratitude and respect to others. I’m a good listener, holding someone’s hand in support, picking up trash on the trails or at the beach on my walks. So many ways that I can give that it doesn’t necessarily involves money. sometimes just being present with someone is enough, a prayer is enough, a smile is enough. thank you for this question! No restrictions, no holding back in giving freely and with love. Of all I may be able to offer, time, strength, talents to share for the better, joy, money, but most of all by giving all my heart. This question “pocked” me enough so that I had to reply twice to-day. because It “flows” with the regular blood donor clinic visit which I booked to-day. One could say it had a “needling” effect on me. Enough to return and add it. How “iron-ic”. 3 Reply Palm6 years agoPalm???? 0 Reply Hot Sauce7 years agoHot SauceI intend to put Tim Freke's book, The Mystery Experience, on a shelf in our choir classroom, so that someone else can read it from the lending library and have a deeper experience of the spiritual beauty and mysteries all around us. I can also share the cash I receive with the homeless when they need it. I can also have a playful, joyful presence so that those who feel empty may find that playful, joyful, loving part of themselves too. Furthermore, I can discuss and debate scriptural texts with people of faith so as to help both them and myself grow in knowledge of God. I can also help those who are stressed, depressed, or lonely find a sense of inner peace by being there to listen to them and show love and compassion to them. Furthermore, by demonstrating the power, love, and wisdom of my divinity, I can show others that they, too, are divine, so that they may experience the Messiah-Presence within. I can also encourage others to do what they set out to do with determination when they feel unconfident, so that they can know that nothing is impossible and may accomplish whatever is their heart’s desire. I can cultivate healing/faith abilities so that I can heal the sick so that they can function again. Finally, I can help those who feel afraid of God or who feel that God is absent or has abandoned them in their journey by listening to them, showing compassion, and guiding them with insight, so that they may see that God is LOVE and nothing else. Smile, kindness, resilience… a not bad skill to cook good recipes…. a good skill with writing (in my language ????). I grew up with an education that had the presumption to prevent oneself’ s glorification….and with the output that a lot of people got a low self esteem and a lot of talents are buried. There is a difference between the focus on success and the courage to uncover my skills in front of people ( and it is possible that people need what I have). But it is still a work in progress, even if I am not so young…. Read More2 Reply Elizabeth M Jones7 years agoElizabeth M JonesWith kindness, with gentleness, with silence. The world is so polluted with noise, with materialism and in fact with every kind of pollution. I can help by accepting my status in life without striving and always wanting more for myself and for my family. 3 Reply John Turner7 years agoJohn TurnerI think having an open mind, ears, and heart are most important. Align with our true spirit and our loving kind presence and non reactivity becomes our guide in responding to others 5 Reply Aine7 years agoAineThe first step is to listen not only with the ears but with the heart. Sometimes the thing another needs most is simply to be seen, to be heard, to have an interaction with a real human being remind them that their existence matters to the whole. 7 Reply John7 years agoJohnWhen I read this question, I recognized that while I have a lot to offer, I cannot presume to know what others might need. I can be more mindful of the individual people and there stories as I go through my day and through my interactions provide an openness and an invitation to what I have to offer. 7 Reply Pilgrim7 years agoPilgrimI have a smile that I can give freely, and eyes that can meet another’s with openness. 6 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteHow can I make a difference with anything I have that others might need? Sometimes varies in strength, yes, but it aways, aways, comes from an inexhaustible source …I call it, “Being-ness” . So my reply to to-days question this . ..by staying as aware as possible of the “Being-ness” within me and all around me, and let it flow as IT wishes too. “Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being. Each of us owes the deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this inner light.” DR. I can give as much as I can in whatever opportunities I realize and act on. 4 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinI can only hope that I am making a difference when my wife and I give to charities that we feel need our support. Beyond that, I look for ways to support people around me who are struggling in various ways. I do what I can but admit that it bothers me to know that I am only scratching the surface of the unrelenting need of so many. 4 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinThank you all, for your gentle nudges, reminders and camaraderie in this space! 1 Reply Anna7 years agoAnnaKevin, the Ocean is made by a lot of droplets. And yet, it’s hard not to now and then recall that phrase “The ocean is so vast and thy boat is so small.” But, we do what we can. Thanks again. 2 Reply Aine7 years agoAineThere is a wonderful sermon by Br. David Vryhof at the www.ssje.org site called YOU Give Them Something To Eat” from 2011 that speaks to this very topic.
