I have been staggered by the sheer beauty of the world around me: the sun flooding my front room in the morning, the billowing curtains in the breeze; the Hamptons; strikingly attractive men, women and children. So often the beauty I see includes wind and sun. 3 Reply grateful sea7 years agograteful seaSuperlatives confound me these days. I wish I could remember when I have felt the greatest aliveness. But I cannot. I can only think of now. The aliveness of this morning -- all senses engaged -- sitting on the back porch watching the sun rise, or more accurately, the rain fall. Nearness of a hummingbird: pearly blur of wings and tickle of their vibration deep inside my ear, their flutter through my heart. Watching bubbles rise up clear column of liquid as hummingbird sips from feeder. In the now, and now, and now of these I feel alive. Thank you for this question. It comes down to moment to moment awareness for me. 3 Reply Anonymous7 years agoAnonymousThe inner senses. Trevor….I can’t thank you enough for your words. They resonate strongly with me. While I am grateful beyond measure for the gift of my “five senses” I also have the desire to “fine tune” what the author has referred to as the “senses of our souls”. These are the senses that, it seems to me, bring an extra dimension of richness and quality to our lives. but we need both an awareness that they are inherent within us and also a conscious effort to embrace and nurture them….they don’t necessarily come naturally like our other senses.. I don’t know if I’m articulating exactly what I mean but just writing this has inspired me to be more mindful of my soul senses. Thank you for that Trevor. ~Blessings Read More1 Reply Gargi7 years agoGargiThank you beautiful 1 Reply Gargi7 years agoGargiIn the kind embrace of a child, or a mother engulfing the child do I sense great aliveness in my life, but more than that when I feel the safe heaven of refuge or getting an answer to something so painful and irrational as a presence or a open space do I come alive, hence the depth of my mind as a sense. Sensing beyond all things great and small good and bad beautiful and ugly, knowledge and ignorance is the ever present seed of that which gives it existence makes me come alive. 6 Reply grateful sea7 years agograteful seaYes, to experience open space within an answer is a great aliveness. Thank you for reminding me. 0 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelthe sense of hearing…when I hear Eric Thomas speak, or Kamal my friend preach, or a Malcolm speech, or a song that brings positive chemicals into my brain, or the sound of real laughter. sight as I read things that bring focus, clarity, inspiration, thought, learning. I don’t know hahhhh the taste of a really good chili relleno is up there hahhhhh!!!! 4 Reply Gargi7 years agoGargiThe sound of real laughter…….so wonderful 3 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelOddly perhaps, the first thing that comes to mind is touch. A cooling breeze on a hot and humid day, our beagle on my lap on a cold winter evening., a hug with my wife. Even when someone does us a favor, we call it touching. 6 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinThis is awesome! Thanks Micheal. 0 Reply Always Learning7 years agoAlways LearningMaybe an offbeat response, but here goes… “common sense.” ???? When I use it, things are much richer in life. I apprehend better, react better, and appreciate what is going on. ???? When I am “common sense free,” I overreact, assume, over analyze, and worry myself into a frenzy. 4 Reply Deb7 years agoDebI appreciate offbeat! Common sense makes alotta sense!! 0 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinWhenever I am holding my camera, my eyes begin seeing anew and my heart begins feeling what I hope to capture as an image. Walking about at dawn, or sitting somewhere, anywhere, just looking around, with or without my camera, is the time when my senses are the most alive for sure. Just yesterday, at exactly five weeks post-op from lower back surgery, I slowly and carefully dipped into the ocean for the first time this summer. It was a symphony of the senses all firing at once — for touch and skin, the sea-sounds, sight lines and briny ocean aromas. Feeling the need to be cautious I lasted one minute and it was grand. And so good to hear you are still careful, but on your way to good health and vitality again. Wish you many of such beautiful refreshing and strenth- giving, joint sensual joyful moments and full recovery. 0 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinThanks very much, Ose. I hope that things are well with you these days also. My best to you! 0 Reply Gargi7 years agoGargiHow I see myself as if present there while you narrate your experience. In other words seeing what coming alive is, as I struggle to bring my sense to see no difference between spiritual and non spiritual as there is no distinction only in our mind. Thank you 0 Reply Debbie D7 years agoDebbie DIt is hard to pick. The top two would be seeing and hearing. Hearing Latin music while dancing Bolero has been the most alive I have ever felt in my ENTIRE life! Next looking at children’s art or abstract expressionism. 9 Reply My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
