For about five years, I have worked with my former neighbor to deliver food to people living on the street. The experience is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, I moved recently, so I have had trouble participating as regularly as I used to. I am considering ways to extend my involvement to my new location. For two years, I have written and performed sketch comedy with a great group of people. That experience and working with them energizes me tremendously. At the moment, I do feel the group is struggling from a lack of direction. I had been hoping not to take on a leadership role because I prefer not to, but I do think that we could use a leader who provides more guidance. The community I have developed with my partner can be the most energizing of all. However, it can be very draining as well. We are naturally dependent on each other, and I think that my partner has become too dependent on me. I need to work on that relationship by being open and honest. They are as much “community” in the truest sense of the word “Common” because they are a vital part of the total community. It maybe a bit much to say they bring me “joy” but when I see the faces of people who express their gratitude for the anonymous assistance they receive there is an “energy” flow there in and it is as good as joy to me. 5 Reply Bree6 years agoBreeSpeaking of organizations, there is a few nonprofits that I follow closely. One of those is the AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation). They did a lot of events overseas these past few months and do a lot for raising awareness, finding a cure, and prevention of the disease. It is an amazing organization if you want to check it out sometime. 1 Reply Doreen Nixon6 years agoDoreen NixonThe Plant Nations and the Standing Ones bring me energy and joy when I am out in Nature. We can only fight hate with love, not more hate. Read More4 Reply John Turner6 years agoJohn TurnerWithout a doubt, my recovery community–both in person and on social media. And in both instances, I can lead by example: I can show others the benefits of 12-Step programs by demonstrating the profound effects mine has had on my life. 2 Reply Barbara6 years agoBarbaraMy grief support group is the community which brings me comfort, peace, love, validation, depth, and wholeness. 2 Reply Deb6 years agoDebThe Benedictine monastic community I lived with for 18 months after my divorce when I had to figure out how to live the remainder of my life. Now I attend Eucharist with them and on Fridays I give massage to those who request it. They are an aged community and I bear witness to the commitment they spent their long lives to. I am grateful for their kindness to me at a time my life shattered. 7 Reply Sheila6 years agoSheilaDeb, I go on a retreat occasionally to a Benedictine monastery not too far from me. The peace there is so profound! I didn’t know they let people live with them at a monastery. How wonderful you experienced that kindness when you so needed it. Bless you, Deb.???? 2 Reply Deb6 years agoDebThank you, Sheila. One of my favorite books on Benedictine living is Always We Begin Again by John McQuiston III. It was my introduction and I have others but still prefer this one. I hope you will find it useful. 1 Reply Sheila6 years agoSheilaThank-you, Deb for the recommendation of the book!???? 0 Reply Cintia6 years agoCintiaThe meditation group that provide me spiritual knowledge, friendships and support in every moment. And my young students. They are energy and pure joy! I believe I can help them, trusting in their potential and being available with my all heart. 6 Reply Bree6 years agoBreeI don’t really have any “communities” right now. I guess that’s part of the reason on why I signed up to this website: clear my head, expand my perspective, find somewhere to be a part of. I can say that I get energy from being around others with high, POSITIVE, energy. That genuinely brings me joy and makes me want to disperse that out into the world myself. 5 Reply kathleen6 years agokathleenMy family and extended family, and my spiritual friends. I spend time with them and savor the sense of belonging they provide for me. I can help them thrive by appreciating what they bring to me. 4 Reply Kristen6 years agoKristenMy community of artists and creative friends bring me energy and joy. I am so grateful to have a group of people who encourage my art and who are freely creating and running creative businesses too. I can help this community thrive by giving thanks for the people in it, encouraging them like they encourage me, and continuing to create space for us to come together and create and lift each other up. 5 Reply Michael6 years agoMichaeleach community I am in (home, work, friends, social media) brings me joy and energy. my vibrations and energy add to wherever I’m at and I receive as much or more than I am giving. Practically speaking, thriving occurs through the joy. Getting to the joy while navigating daily negatives and systemic roadblocks requires learning “accurate thinking” which I work to teach and model. A day of “messing up the system” is always a joyful and energetic day. 5 Reply Barbara Morris6 years agoBarbara MorrisMy musician friends. Every Weekend I create the space in my home to play music with friends so we can express ourselves creatively. It also helps me to feel connected to people in my family, some gone now, because making music was always a part of our get togethers. 6 Reply Nancy6 years agoNancyMy granddaughter and yoga community. One provides me with spiritual sustenance, life-balance and joy, and the other comradely, friendships and exercise. Sometimes, the gifts that each brings me are indistinguishable one from the other. 6 Reply Kathy6 years agoKathyMy community is my family, especially the young ones.
