I am a white American who has some advantages that other minority groups are not always as fortunate to have. In a class I am taking at my church, I am learning to see my life and spiritual views in terms of race. I am a white American who has some advantages that other minority groups are not always as fortunate to have. This is not my fault nor is it something to be guilty for, but it is an inspiration to stand up for the oppressed so that they, too, can have the advantages I have as a straight, white male. I am also looking closely at the white Jesus. Personally, I do not know that it is wrong to portray Jesus as white, since cultures tend to portray religious figures in their own likeness. I think the problem comes when that becomes so normative that any other representation seems “wrong” or “out of place.” I enjoyed looking at the pictures of Chinese Jesus, black Jesus, likely historical Jesus (as portrayed in Time Magazine), and Indian Jesus, as these allowed me to see Jesus as a figure who is relevant to all cultures. Furthermore, I am learning to see life as a school in which we are growing our spiritual nature, and I am becoming more aware of beauty, nature, and the spiritual nature of reality. They have been an obstacle to really open up and fully join you who are giving all your heart for creating a better world, where peace, food, clean water and shelter is there for each and everyone, and where each one is respected and loved unconditionally. Please forgive me where I failed. The process has deepened my understanding and has opened me to the core of vulnerability. Very softly, a perspective becomes alive inside of me now, which leads me to beg and pray for being accepted to share with you and be allowed to live this dream with all my heart and all my being with you all together. Thanks for all your sharing here, it means such a lot. Read More2 Reply KC7 years agoKCToday’s Zulu word of the day – a person is a person because of other people. At this point in my life, I am not having new perspectives so much as the revisitation of gems of wisdom and the opportunity to reapply them at a fuller or deeper level. 2 Reply kathleen7 years agokathleenI don't know if this qualifies as a perspective but it is along the lines of an article I read on the site. When we see the truth and love in everything and everyone we are truly free. The shift in a new awareness a occurs when we ask and the doors are open to love all all around us. I used to be blind, but now I see that my cup overflows with with love. I Am full of gratitude which I share through my thoughts, words, and deeds. 3 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinI am healing faster than expected after having had major back surgery almost twelve weeks ago. These days I am beginning to envision the possibility, with time, of returning to doing some of the things that I was forced to abandon due to chronic back pain. – Kevin 6 Reply Paul Y7 years agoPaul YCongratulations Kevin! I had a hip replacement 13 weeks ago and my recovery was sensational. You must feel free of the pain you must have had. I pray that your recovery and am glad to hear that you are doing so well! 0 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinHi Paul, Glad to hear that you're not experiencing pain any longer. I have heard that same reaction from friends who have had hip replacement surgery in the past also. My surgeon told me at my 7 week post-op checkup, "You're at the end of the beginning of healing, Kevin." Apparently it takes up to a year for spinal fusions to heal fully, The pain I have now is from the surgery itself and not the same kind of pain that I had previously, which is getting less and less with each passing week. Do you have to wear a bone stimulator? I did for quite some time after my surgery, but it wasn’t a problem or even inconvenience. 0 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevin12 weeks indeed, Deb! I’m not sure I even know what a bone stimulator is, Deb. I do use a back brace now and then, but less and less often these days too. 0 Reply Antoinette7 years agoAntoinetteCongratulations Kevin! I pray that you have wellness and are pain free. 2 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinThanks very much, Antoinette. 0 Reply Mier7 years agoMierDuring my holiday I realised that I have the tendency to look for and to do things outside my home that are entertaining in whatever kind of way. My kids however enjoy staying at home, playing in the sand, reading, coloring, watching tv. I now make an effort to enjoy smaller things, just like them. This morning I was ironing whilst listening to music and sipping my coffee, and enjoying it. 4 Reply My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
