    Sky

    Early evening in mid-February,
    I looked up from the street of a city
    still fresh with light
    to see sparrows swooping together and unraveling
    across sky that I became.

    Now during tense afternoons
    or dreamless nights,
    part of me will remain
    that shell-pink horizon
    wild beings soared through.

    My last hour on earth,
    sky will breathe in me,
    and wind-combed constellations of birds.
    Let me remember the joy I felt
    that moment in early spring
    when I contained no boundaries.

    It’s snowing today. I love snow, and it always amazes me when I see falling snowflakes. Most recently, though, I experienced awe when we had an entire week of perfect fall weather: cool, crisp air; blue, sunny skies; colorful maple trees.

    What beautiful colors there are in nature. Just looking around my own backyard I see breathtaking colors. The deepest purple of some flowers, the sunniest yellow on the bee, the palest of blue on the vine flowers growing happily with the purest of white tiny flowers of the jasmine, then there is the vivid red of the geraniums, little girl pink of the petunias, the hearty browns of the tree bark and limbs, all surrounded by a thousand shades of green.     What beautiful colors there are in nature. Just looking around my own backyard I see breathtaking colors.     The sky… sunrises, sunsets, clouds, stars, the sun, the vastness.

    There is so much, but one thing is spider webs. I am in awe that this tiny creature can weave something so beautiful and delicate! One morning I saw a very large web and with the morning dew and sunlight, the web looked magical!

    Squirrels. There are lots in our community and I love to watch them move about. Most say they are busy but I think there’s a bit of simple fun there.

      I relate! I wrote my thesis (barely!) watching squirrels hanging out on a tree trunk in front of my window and chasing each other up and down. Miss them dearly!
