I force myself to look inside and reassess the situation and who I am, what I want to be, and what lessons and blessings I have been given by being in this ‘unpleasant’ situation. 0 Reply Hot Sauce7 years agoHot SauceI've noticed lately that whenever I feel self-conscious or anxious around others, I start to spiral into negative thoughts: I'm not good enough; I'm socially awkward; what if people don't like me? But then I remember the story of Adam and Eve, where the primeval couple eats from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and immediately hide from God, being afraid of having their nakedness exposed. But then I remember the story of Adam and Eve, where the primeval couple eats from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and immediately hide from God, being afraid of having their nakedness exposed. This, of course, is an etiological story about the human experience of self-consciousness, but what’s most interesting about this is that Adam and Eve are said to be “like gods, knowing good and evil.” So then, I flip my perspective. Yes, it’s scary wondering if people are judging me, but if I look at social anxiety with mindfulness, then I realize that it is an exciting initiation into divine wisdom. That is my vocation. 2 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteYes Brother David gave a similar perspective …demonstrating how “re-membering” and under-standing are ultimately the same. quoting a friend of his friend, Swami Venkatesananda …”Yoga is Understanding” and “Understanding as the process by which Silence comes to Word and Word comes home into Silence.” 0 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteWhat experiences are offering me perspective? Combined, these parallel wisdoms are saying that all current worldly, local and personal experiences are occurring HERE, within Divine Wisdom’s Plan, Now,and are “just as they are” no complaining necessary, to advance ITS Knowing of ITSELF through us. We Human Being are here “experiencing” Being-ness, so that we will Know ourselves, our potential, more fully and eventually the Total (potential) Reality. ( Inayat Khan’s description, “burnishing it into an object of delight” are words so very well chosen to convey that fact!) As brother David says it, “AMEN!!” Read More2 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelCounseling/working with/getting to know middle school & high school students. I am simultaneously heartened by their beautiful spirits & “pricked in my heart” about their life circumstances as well as what have we set them up for. My perspective on the urgency of collective work towards positive change is heightened. 4 Reply Julia7 years agoJuliaI am running for an office in my little town in CT. Going door to door and talking with people has pulled me out of myself and opened me to the beauty and pain of others. It’s a profound experience. 5 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinThree of our grandchildren, siblings to each other, have fall birthdays. Some thirty children were on hand yesterday with nearly as many adults enjoying the moment and surrounds of a family cottage alongside a saltmarsh. My wife and I, the grandparents, were among the oldest there, and for me it was a joy watching all these young lives, and adults in the mutual throws of parenting, enjoying the day and each other over food and much laughter. The world and its worries, for these hours and on this day could wait. At this time, life was unfolding with joy, amidst romping-hollering kids and sea-sounds and the ever-changing quieter outgoing tide. Would love to have perspective, to be, that lovely word: right-sized. 3 Reply Katelyn K.7 years agoKatelyn K.When I think of the word "perspective", I immediately think of people. Imagine all the possible perspectives of the world that every person possesses. I believe there are many positions in perspective that we can achieve. We can collect information and form an opinion. We can become aware through listening and contemplation. We can go to where we've never gone before to see what we've never seen. In moving to the Netherlands, I seek to travel to give perspective to my thoughts and relationships. As challenging as my journey can sometimes be, I always remember that the most difficult parts of my life are the ones that will mold me into my greater self. For these experiences and lessons, I am grateful.
