Gratefulness
The opportunities are now endless and I’m so grateful for having this hardship. The opportunity to change my attitude about how I look at life is the biggest gift. As the Buddha says: “We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.” This life changing situation has helped me to awaken to my life’s purpose and what a gift it is! We never know what would have been if we went left rather than right. But perhaps what Rumi also says is true: “What you seek is seeking you.” In which case, no matter what, truth and love reside in me. The opportunity is to open up with compassion and love to everyone and everything. Accepting the moment whatever it brings.
Wow ! I can’t count the ways I’m fortunate! So I’ll start with the fact that I’m born in into this precious human life ! Each breath I take I’m grateful. It’s good to be reminded of this and all of the positive things that can be so easily overlooked !
Enemy may be a harsh word to define other beings we come in contact with. The people who test us in many ways we may not want to be tested, have a lot to teach us about ourselves and who we really are. We could actually thank them for opening our eyes to our habitual reaction patterns! They help us take radical responsibility! They test us to our core and make us live on the razors edge of the Now. The people who test us in many ways we may not want to be tested, have a lot to teach us about ourselves and who we really are. We could actually thank them for opening our eyes to our habitual reaction patterns! They help us take radical responsibility! They test us to our core and make us live on the razors edge of the Now. They help us to reflect on who we really are. These challenging situations or circumstances are an awakening of sorts. The awakening of the “I” looking inward. The introspective space is created in the messiest places. When we come in contact with an uncomfortable situation it creates our minds ego. We could call this a trigger. That’s when our choice of attitude comes in. We then and there MUST give our full awareness to our being-ness or we lose clear sightedness! I believe that these so called “enemies” are a wake up call for us to be in the present moment with open awareness full of gratitude for life. Brother David says, “Say yes to life always!” Each moment is a gift like the thought of the day express. By not working against the flow of any given moment, we can rest in whatever is and take action from there.
My intention is to be open life’s present, which is the gift of love and truth in the here and now. The light of the world is in me and im going to let it shine. I’m truly grateful that my “enemies” – any challenging situation, have taught me to wake up to life’s treasures which reside in me always.
Work with the present moment and not against it. Make whatever is happening a friend and an ally. With open hands, I accept whatever comes to me like I have chosen it. I accept and then I act accordingly. Stop, look and go out into the world with grace.
The gift of life is an extraordinary gift and being given a human existence with all my faculties in place is an amazing gift. I have my parents I can thank for giving birth to me and taking care of me. My family and many others who have taught me how to walk, talk, read, and write etc. I am humbled by and grateful for universal Truth and all beings which have contributed to my well-being in so many ways. Beauty is all around me. When I am in the NOW and open to the present moment the gifts are immeasurable. There is so much to be grateful for. Each breath I take is a gift.
“If I could summarize nonviolence in one word, it would be: patience.” I believe today’s thought of the day brings to mind one of the perfect examples of patience and spirituality . Gandhi was a great spiritual warrior who led people without violence. His dedication to the vision was full of risk and patience. Jesus was also someone who clearly, like Gandhi, took risks, but displayed patience and love wherever he went. Mother Teresa’s love is another example of living a ...

Walking a path of true spiritual growth means trusting and following your innner voice. Opening up to truth and love taking the risk to overcome the ego with dedication to the vision.
Being vulnerable has made me become radically responsible for truth in life.
I am going to take a perhaps strong approach to the thought of the day and say hope doesn’t make the good reveal itself. Hope robs us of our present moment and makes us believe something better could be happening. Whereas gratefulness, in contrast, allows us to be fully open to our present moment with all its imperfectness and impermanence. Gratefulness, unlike hope, makes us take radical responsibility for seeing the truth in what is. Whatever may be or may not be going on in our lives is really just what this present moment is. We could say our situation is like the weather in Minnesota if you don’t like it, wait a minute and it will change. Everything is always changing and not believing in hope means we are truly free in love with our imperfect situation. So, to answer today’s question, I would say taking radical responsibility to whatever is happening whether it be a crisis or a pleasant event is the same. We can embrace gratefulness in whatever comes our way and know that impermanence is a given.
Contentment resting in patience and understanding that each moment is a gift is important.
The most important thing in this moment is being. Being connected to love and truth always.
Dear Christina, I hope you feel better soon. Our health is so important to our outlook on life. I hope you can maintain a healthy positive attitude regardless of suffering. Sending you loving kindness and well wishes.
Francine, I understand that any hate group is hard to understand. Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule. Buddha I hope that we can focus on the light of compassion and love to grow during these times. Like dr. Martin Luther King Junior said : Only light can heal the darkness. ( I’m paraphrasing )
Ed, What is your routine or ritual each morning? Do you use your “musical instrument” in a unique way? What is the practice to reflect the Cosmic Mind? Maybe this is too personal of a question, but I am curious. I think the way we start our day matters, but not everyone has the luxury they say for mindfulness. Do you believe mindfulness meditation is a luxury or a necessity?
Thank you Ed. I feel that meditation, contemplating, observation, and introspection are all key factors to really connecting to our true and authentic selves. Being-ness connected to truth and love always.
I agree Kevin vey heady question, but many of them are.
HI Amor fati, I really feel the same about my meditation regarding allowing whatever comes up to just be there are allow space to make room for wisdom around any giving situation. Peace, Antoinette
Being centered in the breath really resonates with me too. Just being present with whatever is happening in the most balanced way I can. When we are open and honest with whatever is happening we are really in the center and in the truth. We allow whatever is happing to be and make the best out of it. I think this is wise Kevin. Thanks. Have a wonderful weekend!
Easing into the situation sound like a good balance to have in any crisis situation.
Gina, You’re grace is connected to love and truth always.
