I will be sitting typing or something and he will come over and sit on my lap wanting attention. He’s a big ham, but we love him to death! 3 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelKuzco our dog!! 3 Reply Paintboxgirl7 years agoPaintboxgirlI connected with a horse ???? the streanth, gentleness of this giant animal, loyalty, love an animal can give with asking nothing in return, just wanting to be with us, the great comfort and deep connection, is humbling and missed, ????????. #animallover 2 Reply Francine Marie Tolf7 years agoFrancine Marie TolfYes, horses are awesome! when I think about how we made them be part of war for centuries, it saddens me so. They are magnificent creatures. 2 Reply Paintboxgirl7 years agoPaintboxgirlGrateful for clean water, love of my family, healing in my body, peace in my heart ❤️ 0 Reply Francine Marie Tolf7 years agoFrancine Marie TolfMy cat Lilly, of course. This is from an essay: "She follows me faithfully from room to room, but if I remain somewhere for long, she stretches out on her back, legs spread wide, and watches my doings from upside down, eyes lolling as I move from desk to window to chair. Lilly thumps her tail hard on the floor when she approves of something (usually me!) and holds no grudges if I spray her because she is knowingly, naughtily snacking on my plants. Lilly thumps her tail hard on the floor when she approves of something (usually me!) and holds no grudges if I spray her because she is knowingly, naughtily snacking on my plants. But those few instances I lost my temper and yelled at her over a torn screen or broken dish, she hid in the closet. Each time, I sought her out and apologized. She forgave me immediately and was bored by my subsequent kisses and passionate assurances that I was sorry, truly sorry! Saints don’t forgive so divinely.” Read More2 Reply KC7 years agoKCBeautiful. Thanks! 1 Reply SeeAreLow7 years agoSeeAreLowI’m grateful for dogs because of the companionship and loyalty they bring. 2 Reply Deb7 years agoDebIt has been six years since I have had a pet. Before that, I lived with pets 35 years. I appreciate the loyalty and unabashed affection of a dog (I like medium to large sized dogs). I am a fool when it comes to cats, though, and feel it a privilege when one comes to me to be petted. I think my nature is a bit like the cat in that I sleep a lot, can be a bit independent and spend time watching the outdoors. When I was preparing to leave my home and marriage, the cat and dog were a great comfort... It has been six years since I have had a pet. Before that, I lived with pets 35 years. When I was preparing to leave my home and marriage, the cat and dog were a great comfort to me daily. I still remember the feel of the cat on my pillow wrapped around my head and purring and the dog snuggled close. And I am recalling the quote attributed to George Bernard Shaw: “Animals are my friends …. and I don’t eat my friends.” 3 Reply karen waggoner7 years agokaren waggonerwonderful humor…thanks! 1 Reply CC7 years agoCCMy very smart, opinionated ???? cat that actually does many tricks. The tricks aren’t reason I’m grateful though. It is because she allows me in her life … as long as I respect her terms.A good life lesson. 3 Reply Carol7 years agoCarolI’ve been listening to talks on the free Soundstrue summit on the topic of self-compassion and a quote that will remain with me is this: “You have to be free to free others.” I know no domesticated animal that is more free than a cat and my beloved cat “Fleaby” comes to mind. And though he has been gone for over 20 years, I think of him often and still learn from his presence in my life. 4 Reply Palm7 years agoPalmI am following the same Summit with passion Carol, and loved Martha Beck’s comments on how wild animals live their pain, not without resistance but without judgement, and then surrender when there is nothing else to do… so there is pain but no suffering…. which is 1% of their life while 99% is made of presence. 0 Reply KC7 years agoKCCarol, Thank you for the quote – ‘ you have to be free to free others’. Such a helpful and affirming quote, and perhaps something to aspire to! Warmly, KC 0 Reply Christina7 years agoChristinaThat’s an easy one. She’s Lucy, a six-year-old, grey and tan cat whom a friend suggested I get during a bad time. It’s taken a long time, but we’re roomies now! She’s sweet, feminine, delicate. She’s a love. Glad I will, hopefully, have her for a long time! 2 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinDogs. And more specifically, I am grateful for our dog Gracie. There are days when she “sees” better than I do, and she’s blind. She’s a loving and faithful companion and all she asks is to be fed and be loved in return. 2 Reply Antoinette7 years agoAntoinetteanimal ˈanɪm(ə)l/Submit noun 1. a living organism which feeds on organic matter, typically having specialized sense organs and nervous system and able to respond rapidly to stimuli. “wild animals adapt badly to a caged life” Today’s thought of the day and the dictionary’s definition of the word “animal”, make me remember what I’m grateful for. Freedom. Thought of the day: “Where our deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet, we hear a further call.” I love all kids of “animals”, however I have a deep connection to wales and dolphins. The fact that wild animals adapt badly to being imprisoned doesn’t surprise me. In fact, we can see how being imprsioned by our own minds can drive us to mindlessness. All we have to do is look around us to see how mindless can have ramifications of our deep hunger and longing for compassion. Dr Martin Luther king comes to mind when he said,” we can either live as brothers or perish as fools.” All beings want love and freedom from suffering. Dolphins have taught me how joyous freedom can help me surf the waves of unknown territory. Wales teach me wisdom of peace and the profound depths of courageously going deeper beyond fear. Together, they teach me how swim through any wave and dive into truth where love never dies.
