Walking on water is not a miracle, walking on solid ground and feeling the same sense of wonder — that is a life well-lived. I have found (as I am sure everyone who reads this site knows too) that gratitude widens the conduit of love and slows the march of time. 0 Reply Tammy7 years agoTammyFor me it is starting the day with prayer then taking time to be still and listen. I write a blog called Soul Whispers A Breath of Life which are an outcry of those quite moments. Whispers minister to my own being. I am more aware of what is happening around me during the day. It helps me to see beyond ego to the happening that surround us and to react except out of faith and love. 3 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteThank You Tammy . I hold prayer as the most effective “opener” or house cleaner too. 0 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelnot letting past pains or disappointments affect present moments. looking at each moment as an opportunity keeps me open. 3 Reply Amor fati7 years agoAmor fatiThese days on my mountain are ones of constantly changing weather, and the appearance of the natural world. Clouds pass over, darkening the green, sometimes accompanied by a shower. Half a hour later I see brilliant sunshine and the myriad greens of new growth. My task is to pause, stop, breathe, open once again to my connection to all that exists……precious, unique moment……and then another. Bottom line…stay awake! 2 Reply Ben7 years agoBenBy taking good care of any painful feeling or thought pattern that arises, so that my heart settles and the beauty of what is comes pouring in. 4 Reply Lunamagicae7 years agoLunamagicaeBy being mindful. Listening to the universe. Being aware of all the good things in your life. Understanding that everything in life is either a lesson or a blessing. Have moments of solitude and just absorb. 🙂 3 Reply Deb7 years agoDebBy maintaining awareness. 4 Reply Gina7 years agoGinainteresting , Hafiz is an Persian poet as Ed says…. In my rural , small community we have a person named Hafiz that runs a store and most dislike him…..which I understand?! Persian poets and history are very overlooked in our western culture and yet it is an ancient culture full of beauty and truths…. I will be open to this and all the things I overlook advertently or inadvertently ………… 3 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteHow can I be more open to life’s moments? ( and what an ancient and Universal method it is). Besides the breathing technics , also mentioned below ……. if one makes it a conscious habit to develop the natural ability of observing / witnessing one’s own “Internal Light” ( and the candle flame is a perfect starting point / reminder / of that “Internal light” ) one quickly burns away the persistent veils which blur ones vision of the beauty which is always ‘there’ before our very eyes …thereby….. and again and again, stay more open to “Life’s Moments” This awareness of one’s “Internal Light” is a constant theme in all of Hafiz’s poetry …”The Vintage Artist” is but one good example. THE VINTAGE ARTIST The Difference Between a good artist And a great one Is that the novelist Will often lay down his tool or brush Then pick up an invisible club On the mind’s table And helplessly smash the easels and Jade. Whereas the vintage artist No longer hurts himself or anyone and keeps on sculpting Light Read More5 Reply Gina7 years agoGinathanks,Ed, love the poem! 0 Reply Karen7 years agoKarenLast week I had a fall while walking and injured my arm. Since that fall and my slow recovery, I’ve recalled when I had the joy of visiting Thich Nhat Hahn’s monastery in New York and joined in the walking meditation. What a different experience, and one that opened me to life in the moment in such a tangible way connecting mind-heart-and body, that I still experience it when I remember it. Now, I am practicing walking meditation again – conscious of breath and feet on the ground, slow and open – and am so grateful to be able to. This is one way I become more open to life. (And, no more heels!) I tend to lean towards expecting that the moments should be a particular way. I haven’t fully persuaded my ego that it’s not in control. Life’s moments will happen regardless! 4 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinBy showing up, paying attention and beholding wonder as it comes. 5 Reply Ose7 years agoOseBy pausing, breathing and allowing awareness of the moment to rise, which shows up in this space spontaneously. So what I will try to exercise today is to be pausing internally and breathing consciously as often as possible while following my daily activities and see what comes up. If by the end of the day I will have something more to contribute, I will let you know, if you don´t mind. 6 Reply Antoinette7 years agoAntoinetteI can be more open to life’s moments by allowing myself to be awake, alert and open to opportunities. I can be mindful of getting out of the way of my small self which is so full of itself that it hinders the richness of life. How do we get out of our own heads? 3 Reply Ose7 years agoOseDear Antoinette, if I may say something concerning your question, letting go of the "contents of our little self" seems to be a bit like getting rid of old possessions that no longer serve us. May be the exercise of breathing consciously while being aware of the space in between all things and thoughts may help getting out of our heads? So making space a door to freedom of mind? May be leading to changing old habits of mind that we once installed to establish our little self? I don´t know, but ...
