I can add nothing to what everyone else has said, and I am grateful there are so many voices saying essentially the same thing. It gives more hope for our world!
If they want to talk, don't tell them how to handle the situation or try to "fix it" (unless they ask for advice). If they want advice, be careful about the wisdom you give; it will impact their lives. If a person is obviously suffering, ask them if they need anything. If they do, give them what they need. If they want to be left alone for awhile, give them that, and just say, "Well, if you need anything, let me know." Above all, pray for them, affirm for them, and visualize good for them, since...

If they want to be left alone for awhile, give them that, and just say, “Well, if you need anything, let me know.” Above all, pray for them, affirm for them, and visualize good for them, since our thoughts are very powerful. Be LOVE for them.
A smile, a hello, and ask how are you?
Don’t add to their suffering.
Just be with them. Sit with them. Don’t speak first, allow them to sort through their emotions. Give them emotional space and physical space. Let them come to you. Sometimes after they speak, I will offer my hands to them. Sometimes that is all a person in turmoil can handle. Touch is a hug without intruding.
The human touch can lessen suffering. With permission, take the hand of the sufferer and listen with an open heart and the intention to reduce fear and the feeling of separation all painful situations bring.
Act on ways to relieve their suffering…a hug, laughter, a good meal, back and foot massage, pay their electric bill, etc.
By acknowledging their suffering and being patient with them. Loving and caring. Practicing empathy.
I know that due to the challenging circumstances of divorce I can make a positive decision to make a difference by eliminating negative speech.

Divorce can seem overwhelming and scary to a whole family. I can make a positive choice to start today to see the good in each and every new challenge. I can commit to practicing loving kindness and compassion for myself and all involved.
I commit to practicing patience with myself and the growth process it takes for this rebirth no matter how painful or scary it is. I can do this and this in itself is a giant step towards trust and love.
listen, be there w them, earn their trust. based on why they are suffering, discuss strategies to move through or past the suffering and be there with them throughout the process. love them
Well if a situation arises where I can, I will. Outside of an unknown future event, I will be dedicating merits from spiritual cultivation to all living beings. Not just on the face of our planet but in the entire universe. I will post a couple videos in the lounge if that sounds strange to you. (????No I’m not a UFO/alien weirdo ????!)
I think about people who are suffering sometimes are not aware they have a choice or indeed that they are suffering. In that case sending healing in the form of private prayer should they choose to accept it.
I like your answer. I have never prayed for people who are not aware of their suffering. I can start now. Thank you Kathleen.
Very wise response so gratitude to you for pointing out that, “indeed there are situations were they are not aware of their suffering”.

There is the possibility is that they are going through a very important life lesson , sometimes called “whip of destiny” iow, divesting themselves of negative karma due to past transgressions. It is a burning off process, not pretty, but very effective and it must be respected. Far to often those with good intentions don’t realize that they are not receiving that suffering person with their intension to help, they are actually passing some of their negative karma on to them….Hence the English expression, “The road to Hell is paved with good intensions”.
And, by the bye, you are allowed to emanate the Pink light of healing-heart without asking for their permission. Simply engulf them / or the whole planet for that matter / in the pink light of the etheric heart. That will be received and not interfere with the lesson(s) they are (sorrow related) learning. No amount of sorrow or suffering is capable of resisting that light. The entire Universe is sustained by that light and every Human has access to it….they just don’t do it enough.
Make contact with them to let them know that they are not invisible.

???? The bottom line is… do something.
My personal favorite. is when someone asks in person or over the phone, “What can I do to help?”
I know from my own experience that isolation makes the situation worse, and that knowing you are noticed is the first step to rebounding.
By expressing with words and eye contact my heartfelt concern directly to the person who is suffering. Then asking, “How may I help and what do you need?”
