Even ourselves. Gratefulness gives us a sense of being complete and whole. It takes our perception of inadequacy and insufficiency to completeness and sufficiency. Gratefulness makes our fear go away. Gratefulness gives us a sense of being in awe. Gratefulness makes our negative emotions also feel welcome. 5 Reply Anton T Harris7 years agoAnton T HarrisGratefulness has the wonderful ability to put light where there is darkness and joy where there is sadness and peace where there is conflict. Gratefulness, humility, compassion, mercy and joy are deeply related. 7 Reply Palm7 years agoPalmI see greatefulness as appreciation, of all including ourselves. It uplifts the giver and the receiver. I think of how one feels, for example, when our employer or our spouse shows appreciation, or better yet when we appreciate ourselves. I feel more peaceful 5 Reply Mary7 years agoMaryWhat would gratefulness do? That is much like asking what would love do. Gratefulness would be joyous and savor the moment. Gratefulness would focus on what is beautiful, or comfortable, or delicious, or inspiring, or life affirming. Gratefulness would make sorrow bearable. Gratefulness could be the saving grace for all of us. I will take a few moments now to ask God and to ask myself for whatever help I might need to live the precious moments of my life in gratefulness. 9 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteYes Indeed ! And Gratefulness as an emanation becomes “Grace-full presence” when it returns to the sender .( and it always does return 10 fold ) .. and a “saving grace for all of us” because it IS a powerful method of saying… “grace” ( pray ). After two days of very short gratefulness practice, I feel better already about everything. Gratefulness pulls us out of the past and future and into the now. Enough to notice the red geraniums in clay pots, the robin in the birdbath, a sleeping dog, my legs stretched out on the chair as I type these words. To take a breath and actually feel it move in and out of the body. Thank you for bringing light to the world through this site. Thank you for the other sharings. Today I will practice enjoying. The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the current year but if one is living in the NOW, time becomes a “moment to moment” experience in which we make choices that either enrich or impede life. Today’s quote reminds me that I’m free to choose my attitude at any given moment. I share a poem I wrote in 2014 that reminds me that my choices matter and that to choose an attitude of gratitude not only impacts my life but contributes an energy to the world and the Universe that is life giving. God is Being God, You are not a Being. You are Being it’s self, ever faithful, ever present, in joy and in sorrow. Your vulnerability humbles me beyond belief and at times, leaves me lonely and afraid. You see, I’ve come to know my choices matter. They either nurture or destroy the gift of life. For You have made us all creator and I don’t want that responsibility! Why don’t You change the game? Just fix everything? “It’s not possible,” You say. “I have to change. It’s called free will,” You say. “Become the peace I seek.” “Share it with all I meet.” “It’s an inside job,” You say, “That begins and ends with me.” Read More8 Reply Gargi7 years agoGargiSo beautiful and heart warming. 0 Reply Gina7 years agoGina“inside job that begins and ends with me”, that, for me , reminds me of the importance of gratitude and what gratefulness would do, thanks for sharing your poem, Carol 3 Reply Michael7 years agoMichaelit has helped me immensely in my personal life and in my vocation. waking up, continuing thru the day, and then in my ending of the day with gratefulness keeps me seeing situations/moments/people in the best possible light. gratefulness doesn’t equal soft…it means aware and wanting to serve. 5 Reply Anonymous7 years agoAnonymousChange the world for the better, maybe end Capitalism, and take one out of this desire realm possibly to realms of unsurpassed bliss with no desire. It is the key to leaving this world of suffering for places beyond what an earthly mind can fathom exist. 5 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinIt seems to me that if the seeds of gratefulness are at the root of any endeavor then the possibilities are boundless and endless, period. 7 Reply Always Learning7 years agoAlways LearningGratefulness… Turns on the light.
