If it were not for the collaboration of Muslims in the House of Wisdom, for instance, we would have never had the Renaissance or the Industrial Revolution and so no store. A lot more appreciation. I used to be that way but life with all of it’s small ups and huge heavy downs has sucked it out of me to the point where I just mainly see things as they are..as a realist. I’d like to recultivate the attitudes that help me to see the good in all..like I used to. 1 Reply Always Learning7 years agoAlways LearningTo me, the biggest gift is to realize that to many, many others, the ordinary of my life IS extraordinary. It is so important to not be numb to my circumstances. My life has a lot of challenges, mainly in health… but my doctors are EXTRA EXTRAORDINARY, as are my caregivers. Stay tuned in to your blessings. Their vibrations keep you humming. 1 Reply KaizenKyng7 years agoKaizenKyngI feel the simple things in life are amazing but sometimes we lose sight of that. We feel they are ordinary and typical. Taking the time to value and appreciate the simple things a bit more creates a mental barrier from depression, boredom, and many other negative emotions we tend to feel. The ordinary things tend to be the extraordinary things when looking through the correct optics. Appreciate the small things now for later in life you will realize they were the big things! 1 Reply Ed Schulte7 years agoEd SchulteWhat would change if I were to treat the “ordinary” aspects of my life as “extraordinary?” There are people visiting Gratefulness who follow Eckhart Tolle so I will quote Tolle’s daily present moment reminder …..as it serves well to point to value behind to-days question. “It is only a small step from the word “being” to the to the experience of “Being” So an easy substitution ..“It is only a small step from the word “ordinary” to the to the experience of “EXT... So the one words answer to the question …”Awareness” and in one sentence …..”Awareness of Being-ness” which matches with the “Daily Word” final sentence …. “what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Yes “aliveness with the Awareness of Being-ness” Read More1 Reply sparrow7 years agosparrow“It is only a small step from the word “being” to the to the experience of “Being” … love it. 0 Reply Deb7 years agoDeb“Ordinary” is where we live our life, establish our rhythms, where “daily” resides. At the end of our life, when we look back, we see how the ordinary gave us an extraordinary life. To recognize the ordinary daily in the present moment evokes a sense of gratitude and desire to live fully. 2 Reply Antoinette7 years agoAntoinetteThis is funny because it’s almost exactly what I said to yesterday’s question. I believe in seeing the everyday of our lives being gifts to us. Each moment is a unique gift and when I pay attention I can see life as extraordinary. 2 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinI would probably become so exhausted from non-stop exhilaration that I would need to schedule in an extra nap during the day! But seriously, while I get the point of the question, I believe that we need the ordinary aspects of our daily lives because that is where the rhythm, flow and oftentimes the grace of simply being comes from. Otherwise, and I’m guessing within short order, constant extraordinary would soon become the new ordinary. – Kevin 2 Reply Always Learning7 years agoAlways LearningKevin… no shame in that extra nap. You deserve it. 🙂 Have a great day! 0 Reply Christina7 years agoChristinaMy life is pretty ordinary: I work mostly at home, so while I love my redecorated apt. it can get old always being here. My cat Lucy lives here too – again, pretty ordinary. I guess what’s going on in my heart – aided by this site, the people on it and their comments – can make it “extraordinary” and what’s funny is most days it is! 4 Reply Kevin7 years agoKevinAmen to that, Christina! 1 Reply My Private Gratitude Journal Write an entry in your private gratefulness journal Get Started This site is brought to you by A Network for Grateful Living, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
